Facebook Engagement Drops Big Time: 34% Spend Less Time on the Site

What's Going On

If you’re one of those people who have packed up your real life and moved into Facebook, you might be in the minority.  More and more people are spending far less time on the social networking site than in the past, at least according to a new study.   According to Reuters, roughly one-third of all Facebook users are spending less time on the site than they did just six months ago.

Only 20 percent of Facebook members are spending more time on the site than in the past.  The study also found that four out of five members of Facebook are never influenced by ads on the website.   This is bad news for those who invested in the recent Facebook stock market offering, which has plummeted since its release.  Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is being sued by investors who claim that he had inside information that the stock was significantly overvalued.

The IPO might also be bad news for Facebook’s public image.  A total of 44 percent of those who’d heard about the IPO felt less favorable about the company after the IPO than they did before it.
