Have you heard of the new video game system called Ouya? You will. And at just $99 for open gaming, you’ll want one.
Thanks to pledges of more than $3 million in two days on the crowd-funding website, Kickstarter, the Ouya has the potential to become the gaming world’s next best thing.
The video game project made Kickstarter history by becoming the eighth project in Kickstarter history to raise more than a million dollars–and the fastest ever to do so. The project’s creators had only set out to collect $950,000.
The concept–the gaming system is still a prototype–is a Android-powered open gaming console where developers give gamers what they want without the extra associated with the major gaming systems out now.
All developers will be welcome to make games for the Ouya without any licensing fees, retail fees or publishing fees say the gadget’s creators. And every Ouya will be its own development kit.
The creators want to bring innovation and the new games back to the tv screen after so much focus has been put on the development of mobile and table games. All the games on it will at least have free trial versions.
The Ouya developers hope to make the console available in 2012.
