Meet Three People Who Make Tons of Money Off Prisons

The US prison system leaves much to be desired. The prisons are overcrowded and the prisoners and guards alike suffer much abuse inside those walls. In the US we have more people in prison than China and Russia. Many of these prisons are run by for-profit companies, not the government, so someone is getting rich off of locking people away. Who are the ones that make their money off of criminals?

The following investors were found through NASDAQ data research of Corrections Corporation of America and GEO Group which are two of the largest companies that run prisons in the country.

1.  Henri Wedell – Mr. Wedell has been on the board of directors at CCA since 2000. He is invested in the most prisons out of anyone else in America. He owns stock shares that are worth over $25 million. When he was asked how he felt about making money off of people in prison he simply stated that this was a free country and there were those who chose not to enjoy that freedom.

2. George Zoley – Mr. Zoley is the CEO of the GEO Group. He is the second biggest investor in the prison system. He tried to get a football stadium named after GEO Group because he is so proud of his business. In salary and bonuses alone Zoley pulled in almost $6 million. He has also made $23 million in stock shares in just 18 months.

3. Jeremy Mindich and Matt Sirovich – Both of these men run Scopia Capital which is the biggest shareholders in the GEO Group. They currently own around $300 million in shares. They are a hedge fund and outperformed the market by 20%. The state of New Jersey even hired them to manage their pension funds.

  1. We have the power to change that if we commit to do so.
That would definitely put a wrench in their modern slavery.
We got to get right people. Lets stop going backwards n move
    Forward together.

  2. They make money from loved ones who support family members in prison. Many would go hungry, be without adequate medical care and clothing. The prisons make money on phone calls and supplies.

    • the prisons make money from the states for housing the prisoners..many states have committed to a 90% occupancy rate guarantee in these “for Profit Prisons”. So they are getting the prisoners younger and younger. It is only a matter of time before “they” make it legal to arrest and incarcerate juveniles as young as 5(kindergartners), they are working on it somewhere I am sure. I would not be surprised to see this, children “going to jail” for infractions such as talking back to a teacher. Things that would have been met with a parent/teacher conference in the past now bypass this important step and go straight to the police.

  4. Why complain when you too can invest in prisons also. Learn from the pros…it’s better to be a landlord and not the tenant. I say this as a former CO and stock broker.

  6. Ladies and gentlemen, brothers and sisters, some of us are aware but most are not, that slavery has never actually been abolished in America. A few short months after old honest Abe declared freedom for the enslaved with the Emancipation Proclamation the U.S. Congress cleverly inserted the 13th Amendment. This congressional act, without doubt or contradiction, rescinded the Proclamation. In January of 1863 the President issued the executive order that all slaves would be free. Consider that on December 6th 1865, less than three years later, the 13th Amendment was adopted. That amendment clearly repeals the Emancipation Proclamation yet no one ever brings it before the bar of justice. Read it for your self:

13th Amendment: “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.”

So these are merely 3 modern-day slave holders doing what slave holders do.

  7. This goes hand in hand with all of these for profit colleges and online universities. The provide great profits while those that attend them suffer in various ways. Yea, I hear you all saying people shouldn’t commit crimes. True, but the crime starts back in kindergarten, they base future prison populations on 2nd. and 3rd. grade test scores and graduate students from high school that can only read at a third grade level. We as a people need take back our homes, communities and educate our own children. How can we expect the slave masters to empower the slave, REALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Hasn’t it always been so? The master keeps the slave ignorant lest he discover his true condition. It was illegal to teach a slave to read. In many Muslim countries it is illegal to teach a girl anything. It is much easier to enslave the ignorant than the thinking person. Schools don’t really teach children to think, to question, to challenge. They teach to the test, tell them the answers expected of them. And who gave us this canned education? Which party? And where did it come from? From the top down, of course. When a religion or a government or a school or a TV newscaster or radio talk show host tells you what the answer is–RUN the other way, straight for a library and find the answers for yourself! If you learned to read proficiently, that is.

  8. @Elder Charles Austin, I agree we need to Take Care of our own Homes and Communities, and Educate our own Children…In most of the Schools in the U.S. nowadays, they are Allowing The Teachers to Carry Guns in The Classrooms…It is a Disaster just waiting to happen, some Child will Eventually get Possesion of a Gun, and someone will be Killed…This is all by Design to Kill our Black Children and Incarcerate Them…Wake Up Black People, We have To Protect Our Own Children…Everyone has a Right To Defend Themselves and Their Families.

  9. There are many companies out there that offer affiliate opportunities which means that
as long as you contribute to the growth of their company then you will be entitled a
portion of the profits of that growth until the end of the business relationships you created.

Create a collection of good articles then build an ebook. Would you
have joined your current MLM company if you genuinely didn’t believe
    in what it represents.

  11. The mere existence of for-profit prisons here in the US is a scandal to anyone’s moral imagination, since the profits depends on increasing the prison population and obstructing release. This is part of the massive move to privatization: charter schools, resistance to affordable health care, private security (which accounted for a large % of “troops” in the [unending] Iraq war, private constabulary in the form of conceal carry and stand-you-ground laws. “A decent respect for the opinions of mankind,” as our founding declaration states it, call for outlawing private prisons.
