Watching medical shows like “Grey’s Anatomy” can expose you to some interesting medical facts. But this is one that Shonda Rhimes the crew might not have seen. It’s so scary and strange that you almost think it’s science fiction.
A 2-year-old boy from Huaxi was admitted into the hospital after suffering breathing difficulties from stomach distension (when the stomach has been enlarged from internal pressure).
After undergoing numerous operations, an Xray and MRI scan finally revealed that Xiao Feng was involved in a rare case of cryptodidymus or conjoined twins. The doctors revealed that Feng was with child, carrying his twin brother.
Doctors immediately removed the 20 cm under-developed fetus from Feng’s tummy. The still-born fetus was reported to have has fully formed limbs and spine, including all ten toes and fingers. The very rare case of ”foetus-in-foetu” siblings or conjoined twins occurs when a mother’s fertilized egg fails to fully separate. Identical twins, on the other hand, form when an egg splits down the middle after fertilization.
Neonatologist for Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland, Dr. Jonathan Fanaroff stated that some conjoined twins can survive in the womb as a “parasite”, but when one twin eventually absorbs another, it no longer can survive.
