A man from the Seattle, Washington area almost k!lled his own child when he allegedly injected himself and his 4-year-old son with heroin in an attempt to stop the finalization of his divorce from his wife of six years.
On the day of the supposed finalization of Eric Emil Lehtinen’s divorce, his soon to be ex-wife found both him and his son unconscious in a locked house last Tuesday. Lehtinen, 37, is a reported drug addict and dealer.
A blanket used to cover Lehtinen’s son was removed by his wife and she reportedly found a syringe filled with drugs lying on his chest, according to court documents. The report continues that both Lehtinen and his son were rushed to separate hospitals when attempts at reviving them by firefighters called to the scene failed.
Redmond Police Lt. Charlie Gorman said that in his 35 years as a police officer, he had never come across anything like this.
Alex Marchand, a neighbor of Lentinen, said that he didn’t understand how a person could be so messed up that they would inject their own son with heroin. He added that he had never heard of anything like this before and he wouldn’t have believed that anything like this could happen in the world.
Lehtinen was arrested and taken to jail after his release from hospital. He remains there on a charge of attempted murder in the first degree of his son and his bail is set at $3 million.
Prosecutors reportedly said that Lehtinen was a “man who is willing to inject his 4-year-old son with heroin in an attempt to k!ll the boy” and he is a “dangerous man willing to do anything.”
Lentinen’s son is still at the Seattle Children’s Hospital under the care of doctors but it is not known if he will suffer any permanent damage from his near fatal dose of heroin.
Along with the heroin in the boy’s system, medical personnel at the hospital also found evidence of other drugs like ketamine, morphine and codeine along with puncture wounds to his neck and buttocks from injections from a needle, according to reports.
