The actions of rogue police officers don’t shock us anymore, since there are so many of them, but sometimes, they get your attention. Cops in the NYPD are being accused of forcing a black man to rap in order to avoid being arrested.  The man says that the cops told him that if his rap wasn’t good enough, he’d be going to jail that night.

Quinshon Shingles says that he had to spit the verse of his life in order to avoid remaining in handcuffs.

“$30,000 in pocket that’s loose change. I throw a billion in the sky like Bruce Wayne,” he said he rapped that night for the officers.

The rapper, who goes by the name “Sauce Da Boss,” has filed suit against the NYPD over the incident.  He says that the officers came into his cousin’s apartment and put him in handcuffs.

“They said let me hear you rap and if it’s good enough we’ll let you go,” Shingles said.

The young man says that he was so devastated by the incident that he just returned to the studio recently.   He says that the incident reminded him of slavery and buckdancing.

“I felt like the old days, slavery. Like dance for the master, dance and sing for the master. It just messed me up inside,” Shingles said.

The NYPD has been under heavy national scrutiny for other abrasive policies, such as “Stop and Frisk,” which leads to unlawful search and seizure of thousands every year, most of them being black and brown men.

  6. This is not a laughing matter, and it is demeaning for Black men to still be treated like minstrels by insecure, racist white-boy cops! The only way they can feel empowered is by demeaning Black men to compensate for their feelings of inadequacy as white dudes. This brotha is an artist and surely must have felt robbed because he had to use his art to perform for the ENEMY or lose his FREEDOM!

  8. Why did they arrest him in the first place? We need the total truth here. It goes without saying how dysfunctional the NYPD is.
